Cano keeps hits coming in Yanks' loss
Second baseman doubles twice; errors disrupt Kennedy's day
By Anthony Castrovince / MLB.com

INDIANS 7, YANKEES 5
at Winter Haven, Fla.
Tuesday, March 25
Yankees at the plate: Jason Giambi and Robinson Cano ripped consecutive doubles off Paul Byrd in the sixth inning. After Hideki Matsui walked, Wilson Betemit and Jose Molina contributed back-to-back RBI singles. Cano added another RBI double in the seventh and raised his Grapefruit League batting average to .464 with a 3-for-4 day.

Indians at the plate: In the first inning, Grady Sizemore advanced all the way to third on an error by center fielder Melky Cabrera, then scored on Asdrubal Cabrera's groundout. With two on and two out, Ryan Garko smacked a three-run homer to left on Ian Kennedy's 0-2 pitch. Andy Marte, who made two errors at third, hit a three-run homer to put the Tribe ahead in the bottom of the eighth.

Yankees on the mound: Kennedy's outing was the antithesis of Byrd's. Thanks in part to Cabrera's error, Kennedy labored in the first, then settled in. He was charged with four runs (none earned) on five hits, walking four and striking out three in 4 2/3 innings. Kyle Farnsworth worked a scoreless sixth.

Indians on the mound: Byrd was solid early, particularly when he worked himself out of a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the fifth. But his outing unraveled in the fifth and sixth innings. Byrd lasted 6 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits. Marte's pair of errors didn't do much to help Byrd.

Grapefruit League records: Yankees 13-9-2; Indians 13-12-3.

Up next for the Yankees: Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang will make his final Grapefruit League appearance before Opening Day when he gets the starting nod opposite Phillies right-hander Brett Myers in Clearwater, Fla., on Wednesday. Joba Chamberlain, who pitched in a Minor League game on Tuesday, is also scheduled to throw in the 1:05 p.m. ET game. It will be the first time this spring that Chamberlain works consecutive days.

Up next for the Indians: Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner C.C. Sabathia will make his final Spring Training tune-up before his Opening Day start against the White Sox when he and his Indians teammates travel to Kissimmee, Fla., to face the Astros at 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday. Right-hander Roy Oswalt will get the start for the Astros.
